A business client with a 1 Gbps internet connection experienced frustratingly slow Wi-Fi speeds, with one access point dropping to just 10 Mbps.
Infrassist’s network team conducted a step-by-step diagnosis from baseline testing and on-site investigation to lab replication, and uncovered an overlooked setting on the client’s TP-Link PoE switch: Extend Mode, which was limiting port speed for long-distance PoE runs. By disabling this setting, we were able to instantly boost Wi-Fi speeds to 500 Mbps.
As a bonus, we also implemented a secure guest Wi-Fi using NAT Mode, client isolation, and a captive portal all without VLAN complexity. The result was a stable, high-speed wireless network, secure guest access, and a happy client.
