Marley Pipe Systems is a leading provider of plumbing solutions in sub Saharan Africa.

They provide superior quality pipes and fittings we manufacture and distribute for your plumbing and building requirements.

For the past 5 decades they have established a standard to both the plumbing and building industries in respect to legislative compliance, product support, quality assurance and customer service.

Solution

Our team installed new Microsoft Exchange 2016 server into Marley Pipe Systems domain environment, migrating all users’ mailboxes to new server followed by graceful decommissioning of old Exchange 2010 server. This also includes making sure all exchange configuration is replicated to new 2016 server, switching of mail flow to new inbox without any interruption to end users & minimal reconfiguration required if any. The client had a pre-requisite that the data should not leave the physical boundary of their datacenter so instead of opting for online cloud service they wanted to upgrade their old Exchange 2010 server to new Exchange 2016 server.

Below are the key steps followed for resolving the Exchange issue:

Installation of Exchange 2016 on new Server and validate role installation & review Exchange Setup Logs

  • Provisioning of different mailbox databases & add one test user mailbox on new exchange server
  • Configuring Internal & External URLs for all exchange servicesSetting up Certificates, Outlook Anywhere & Service Connection Point
  • Migrate arbitration mailboxes
  • Update of DNS records & validate working of Exchange 2016 co-existenc with 2010

Technical Challenges

Marley Pipe Systems were leveraging Microsoft Exchange for having business-class email service that increase user productivity while protecting the data. As Microsoft does not support direct migration from Exchange 2010 server to Exchange 2019 server, they found difficulties in running it on direct server. That is where team Infrassist extended the arm of help with a solution; in which, we divided the whole process into two phases; Phase-1 migration from Exchange 2010 server to Exchange 2016 server and Phase-2 migration from Exchange 2016 server to Exchange 2019 server
